Terms of Use

What my site is for, and what it isn't.

Effective May 17, 2026.

What my site is

matthewsorg.com is the site for my practice, Epoché Psychotherapy, PLLC, in Seattle, Washington. It provides information about my practice — services offered, training and credentials, rates and insurance, how to make contact. It's intended for prospective clients who are considering reaching out, for current clients who want practical information about my practice, and for clinicians and members of the public who are interested in the work.

What my site isn't

Reading any page on my site doesn't establish a therapist-client relationship. A therapeutic relationship begins only after an initial consultation, mutual decision to work together, completion of intake paperwork, and the start of clinical sessions.

Nothing on my site constitutes psychotherapy, clinical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The content is general information about my practice and about the kinds of clinical work I do. It isn't a substitute for individualized care from a licensed mental health professional.

My site isn't for crisis situations. If you are in immediate danger or in a mental health emergency, don't use my site or my contact form. Call 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line), or call 911. Additional crisis resources are listed on the FAQ page.

The contact form

The form on my contact page is for initial inquiries — a sentence or two about what you're looking for. It isn't for sending protected health information, clinical details, trauma history, or anything urgent. Messages submitted through my form come to my email; they aren't stored in a clinical record system, and email isn't a secure or HIPAA-compliant medium for clinical information. I deliberately included a notice asking you to keep sensitive content out of the message.

Submitting my form doesn't guarantee a response, and doesn't establish a therapeutic relationship. I respond to most inquiries within 24 to 48 hours.

External links

My site occasionally links to external sites — clinical training organizations, credentialing bodies, government agencies, peer practitioners and resources. I don't control the content of external sites and am not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or terms of use. Including an external link doesn't constitute endorsement of all content on that site.

Intellectual property

Original written content on my site — essays, page copy, the Apologia, the Approach page, and other prose — is my work. Photographs and visual assets are either original work or licensed. Quotations from poets, philosophers, and other writers are used under fair use for noncommercial illustrative purposes; copyright remains with the original authors and their estates. Please don't reproduce substantial portions of original content without permission. Brief quotation with attribution is welcome.

Limitation of liability

I make reasonable efforts to keep the information on my site accurate and current, but make no warranty as to its completeness or accuracy at any given moment. Pricing, insurance panels, training credentials, and availability change; my site is updated regularly but may briefly lag behind current practice. For anything you intend to act on — fee schedules, in-network status, scheduling availability — confirm directly with me before relying on it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington. My practice is licensed and regulated by the Washington State Department of Health.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change substantively, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date.
