# Epoché Psychotherapy — Matthew Sorg, LMHC

> Trauma therapist in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood specializing in EMDR, Brainspotting, Flash Technique, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), and psychedelic integration. EMDRIA Certified. Depth-oriented, existential-phenomenological approach. Focuses on complex trauma, men's mental health, and LGBTQ+ affirming care. In-person in Capitol Hill, Seattle. Telehealth across Washington State.

Matthew Sorg is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington State and the founder of Epoché Psychotherapy, a private practice offering depth-oriented trauma therapy for adults. He is an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist and teaching faculty in the Psychology Department at Seattle University.

His clinical approach integrates evidence-based trauma modalities (EMDR, Brainspotting, Flash Technique, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy) with existential-phenomenological therapy. He works at the intersection of body-based trauma processing and philosophical depth — helping clients integrate what happened to them at the level of the nervous system, relationships, identity, and meaning.

His practice serves primarily men (85%) and LGBTQ+ individuals (62%). He is a gay therapist whose lived experience informs his clinical work with shame, identity, minority stress, and belonging.

He holds a Master's in Existential-Phenomenological Psychology from Seattle University and a Master's in Library and Information Science. Before becoming a therapist, he spent over a decade in education technology and scholarly publishing (ProQuest, Scribd) in roles focused on information architecture and product development.

He also created Epoché Studio (https://epoche.studio), a free interactive clinical teaching reference covering 131 therapeutic modalities for therapists and counseling students.

## Clinical Approach

Matthew's work is grounded in existential-phenomenological therapy — attending to the lived experience of the person, not just symptoms or diagnoses. He integrates:

- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) — EMDRIA Certified

- Brainspotting (Phase 1 & 2) — for trauma stored beneath words

- Flash Technique (Levels 1 & 2) — low-distress trauma processing

- Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy — KA-EMDR and traditional KAP

- Relational and somatic trauma work

- Existential-phenomenological depth therapy

He works at the pace of the client's nervous system, not a protocol's pace. Many clients come to him after talk therapy that helped them understand their trauma but didn't change how their body responds.
